Thanks for your question, Warren. Non-native lake trout have been found in Yellowstone Lake and threaten the survival of native Yellowstone cutthroat trout, and other species that depend on the native trout. Currently the fisheries staff is removing lake trout by gill-netting (almost 16,000 were removed this way in 2001), regulations encourage anglers to catch and keep lake trout (1,500/yr are caught), and biologists are researching the abundance and distribution of lake trout in Yellowstone Lake.
