: How thick does a grizzies hair get and does it get thicker than a black bears hair?
Thanks for your question, Mercede. The bear's fur is among the best insulating coats worn by any wild animal. The density of the coats keeps the bear warm, the oiliness prevents water from penetrating. Bears fur consists of two hairs, the "guard hair" and the "underfur". Black bears have soft, dense underfur for insulation and long, coarse, thick guard hair. Grizzlies have long, thick hair all over; with a moderately long mane at the back of their head. Sorry,I don't have the numbers to actually give you a comparison between black and grizzly hair thickness.
